Do you also have this trouble? You want to tidy up your home, but have no idea where to start. After spending ages cleaning, the space becomes messy again within just a couple of days?
Don’t worry. Today I’m sharing a simple “5-step home organizing method”. Easy to remember, perfect for beginners. Follow the steps in order, and your tidy home will stay clutter-free long-term.
Step 1: Empty Everything
Take out every item from the zone you plan to organize, and lay them out on the floor or bed. Empty drawers, wardrobes, cabinets — leave nothing behind.
Why do this? Two key benefits:
· You see exactly how much stuff you own. If you don’t pull everything out, you will never know how many forgotten items are hidden in corners.
· You can thoroughly clean built-up dust in the empty space. Wipe all surfaces while it’s bare.
If you skip this step, your tidying will never be thorough.

Step 2: Sort Items
Group similar items together, just like playing a matching game.
· Stationery with stationery
· Clothes with clothes (further separate trousers, jackets, underwear)
· Medicines with medicines
· Charging cables with charging cables
After sorting, you may be shocked: “I own so many identical black trousers?” “I have three pairs of scissors!”
Seeing all your belongings laid out clearly helps you decide what to keep and what to remove.

Step 3: Simplify (Declutter)
Time for honest self-checks. Hold each item and ask yourself two questions:
· Do I use this regularly now?
· When was the last time I used it?
✅ Keep items you love or use daily. ❌ Discard or donate broken, expired, or unused items that have sat untouched for years.
Organizing is not about cramming everything into storage. Only keep belongings that bring you joy.
Step 4: Smart Storage
Find suitable homes for the valuable items you decide to keep. Use storage boxes, shelves and hooks. Remember these three rules:
1. Store close to where you use them. Keep scissors near the kitchen or desk, not in a cabinet in the living room.
2. Vertical storage: stand items upright instead of stacking flat to save space. For example, stand plates on edge and hang handbags on hooks.
3. Fill containers to 80% capacity. Do not overpack, leave space so items are easy to grab.
Storage is not about fitting more things. The goal is easy access and easy putting away.
Step 5: Assign Permanent Spots
This is the ultimate trick to prevent clutter. Every item gets its dedicated home.
Set a fixed location for each category, and label your storage boxes:
· Batteries
· Cold medicine
· Charging cables
· Scissors / Tape
Anyone who uses these items can quickly find where to return them. No more messy rooms or rummaging through cabinets to find things.
